mother nature strikes again

A massive 8.9 magnitude earthquake has struck off Japan's northeastern coast, triggering a 10 meter tsuanami that swept away boats, homes and cars along the coastline. They say it is the biggest earthquake that has hit Japan in the last 140 years!

Mother nature is punishing us big time for all the bad we have done to our beautiful earth. It is so important for each and every one of us to start respecting nature and our world before it's too late. What are you doing to be more environmentally friendly? Do your bit by recycling, eating less meat and more local / organic food, conserving water, supporting eco friendly items, re-using plastic bags or even better buy a few canvas bags (woolies sells them) and re-use them for your grocery shopping, if you have your own garden, consider starting a compost pile? There are so many small ways to be more 'green'. So I encourage you to start doing your bit and encouraging your loved ones to do so too, its starts with you and you can make a difference.

Have a happy weekend everyone. Sending much love and prayers to the people of Japan.

shrove tuesday

So yesterday was Shrove Tuesday, the day you have pancakes for dinner! Its a day late but thought I would share with you my perfect pancake recipe for any occasion!
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter or cooking oil

Preparation:
Sift together flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and 1 1/2 cups of milk; add to flour mixture, stirring only until smooth. Blend in melted butter/ oil. If the batter seems too thick to pour, add a little more milk. Cook on a hot, greased pan, using about 1/4 cup of batter for each pancake. Cook until bubbly, a little dry around the edges, and lightly browned on the bottom; turn and brown the other side.
I like my pancakes served with cinnamon sugar, lots of maple syryp and a little squeeze of fresh lemon! Delish*

fifi lapin

I absolutely adore bunnies! When I got introduced to little miss Fifi Lapin, I fell in love. She is not just any bunny, she is a fashionista bunny! How cute? No but seriously, she is recognized all over the world for her amazing style and fashion trends. She has her very own book, better known as her style bible called "what shall I wear today" which features all her most stylish ensembles.  She has a boyfriend named Sonny Hare, a puppy named Stella and her best friend is Ruby Gatta who is a stylish kitty.

How cute is the heart shape bag?

Isn’t she adorable?

Check out her blog: http://fifi-lapin.blogspot.com/

for the love of florals*

I heart florals! My wardrobe is completed dominated by floral dresses, jumpsuits, tops and skirts. Typical girly girl! So thought I'd put together a floral inspired fashion board to bring some floral to my blog spot*

not just an egg on toast

Its a HEART shaped egg on toast! How cool!
And this is how you do it ...

What you need:
- Egg
- Milk carton (cut open, washed well and dried) or just a really strong piece of card board
- Chopstick (round one is ideal) or kebab stick
- Rubber bands

Step 1: Cut milk carton/ hard piece of card and fold it in half lengthwise.
Step 2: Make a hard boiled egg.
Step 3: While the egg is still warm, peel the egg and put the egg on the milk carton, place a chopstick on the center of the egg, and put rubber bands on the both ends.
Step 4: Leave it for about 10 minutes.
Step 5: Take the chopstick off and cut the egg in half.

This was my attempt ... doesnt look too much like a heart but hey, there is always a next time :)

Hello March, Hello Autumn

Pinch & a punch for the first day of the month!

So February is already over! Gosh this year is flying. Is it me or does every year seem to fly by faster than the last?

I truly heart Autumn in Durban. It is by far (in my opinion) the best weather of the year! Beautiful, calm, cloudless days without the humity. Yes, the sun sets earlier and the day seems shorter but as a plus we get to enjoy beautiful sunsets and sunrises while we watch nature changing its colours as the year ripens. Speaking of ripening some of my fav fruits; oranges, apples and mangos come into season. Yum!
I am looking forward to another season of summer dresses, sandles and long warm days spent on the beach.

Happy first day of March!*
